Very nice room.
I had not checked out but left my toothbrush in my room but not my bags. Toothbrush vanished when maids cleaned my room. Asked for a wake-up call for 4am on 12/2/12 never got that call. Glad I woke up 10 minutes before 4 am. would have missed my plane.

This was my second time staying at The Governor Dinwiddie Hotel. I absolutely enjoyed my stay at the hotel. It is extremely clean and the hotel workers are very nice and friendly. The hotel is located in downtown Portsmouth and near the waterfront. My husband and I enjoyed walking downtown and visiting the many shops and musuems. The restaurants located near the hotel are great. Overall, I enjoyed my stay at this hotel. If you are looking for a quality, CLEAN and pleasurable weekend or vacation this is the place for you!

The proximity to the Naval yard &waterfront. Also Cindy who is no longer there.
Its a shame such a jewel has been neglected. Our room was dirty curtains and walls stained . the hot water heater broke mid day the second day

I found the hotel very clean and comforable. I have no complaints about the hotel or room.
As a non-smoker, I found it very unpleasant that smokers were lighting up cigarettes right outside the hotel entrance, leaving me to have to pass by their second hand smoke to get to the parking lot. If something could be done to keep smokers away from the hotel entance, it would make the whole expereince better. I would not have to breathe 2nd hand smoke on the way to my car.

CLOSE by event we were attending, great value for dollar.
We had no hot water in the shower, not sure if it was the shower knob which seemed to be loose or that the hot water did not work. We were able to turn the know 360 degrees which I do not think was supposed to happened. Because we were in an hurry the day of check out,we did not wait for repair but reported the no hotwater issue at check out.

Room was comfortable and clean. Hotel is located near my family, and being downtown was convenient.
Coffee service was poor, both in room and in lobby. Coffee cup in room was not cleaned after previous use, & no sugar, anywhere. A replacement coffee cup was never returned to room Hot water was an issue in the afternoon. Had to change rooms because first room had no heat. Bed is too hard.

An older building probably circa 1930...definitely had a nostalgic feel throughout the hotel...lobby, rooms, etc. In Olde Towne, Portsmouth, it is in a historic district with a wide variety of cuisine available within easy walking distance. From German to Sushi and a lot in between. A few pubs are scattered up and down the beautiful streets. Also within walking distance is a renovated movie theater showing current releases that has full service dining while you watch the movie! The theater seating has been removed and replaced with small 4 seat tables. Very unique, yet very nostalgic as well. Also just a few blocks away is the Elizabeth River, a military museum, sports museum and other attractions.
No ghosts!

Relatively cheap. Close to a range of restaurants.
Terrible parking area is twinned with a low income housing project. When I arrived and parked I was immediately told in no uncertain terms to park in the 'hotel area'. The hotel parking area is not indicated clearly and was full so I parked in the street that permitted parking until 1000 the next morning so it was not so bad. The second night there were enough parking spaced in the hotel parking lot. When we arrived the person in front of me was told the the hotel was overbooked, we however got a room. I heard other people complaining about the overbooking of rooms. This is an old hotel albeit cheap, clean and did the job for us.
